Landfill

The Adair County Sanitary Landfill and Recycling Center serves the communities of Casey, Bridgewater, Fontanelle, Greenfield, Menlo, Orient, and Stuart, and all unincorporated areas of Adair County.

Please call the Landfill at 641-743-8343 if you have any questions about items accepted or fees.  These fees must be paid for with cash or check only.  No credit or debit cards are accepted. 

Fees

Solid Waste & Construction/Demolition Fees

  • $80.00 per ton
  • 0-500 pounds, minimum charge of $20.00
  • 501 pounds+ pro-rated to $80.00 per ton

All Appliances (White/Brown Goods)

  • $15.00 per item disposal fee
    refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, microwaves, stove, washers, dryers, dishwashers, hot water heaters

Tires

  • Cars: $5.00 each
  • Pickup Trucks: $10.00 each
  • Car or Pickup Truck Tires with Rims: $5.00 extra
  • Semi, Ag/Farm Tires: $0.20/pound or $400.00/ton
  • Semi, Ag/Farm Tires with Rims: $10.00 extra

More than 2-3 car or pickup tires will be weighed.

E-Waste/Electronics

  • TV and Computer Screens/Monitors
    • 21" and under: $15.00 each
    • 21" - 40": $25.00 each
    • 41" and up: $30.00 each
  • Printers, CPU, Towers, Fax, VCRs, DVDs: $5.00 each

Household Hazard Waste

  • All Paint, Varnish, Thinners: $1.00 per gallon

Recycling

The following items incur no charge if they are separated.

  • Oil (if not contaminated)
  • Batteries
  • Metal/tin cans (do not remove labels or lids, but do rinse)
  • Cardboard (must be clean and dry; brown paper bags can be recycled with cardboard)
  • Newspapers (do not bag; what comes with the newspaper can be recycled, including ads, phonebooks, magazines, and office paper)
  • Glass (clear or colored, but must be see-through; no porcelain, ceramic, or plates)
  • Plastics (#1 - #9 are accepted, find this number on the bottom of the container)
    • No plastic bags or styrofoam

Metal

All metal is banned from being buried in the landfill, but it can be recycled at no charge if separated from the garbage. If metal is not separated, you could face an extra charge for sorting.
