We Want You!

posted on 3/21/24

This will be a big year for elections as the Primary is June 4th and the Presidential/General election is on November 5th. In anticipation of a large voter turnout, we are looking to boost our number of available election officials. We have 5 precincts and try to keep our workers in their own precinct.

Adair County is seeking individuals who we feel would make excellent precinct election officials.

Some information that might help you decide is as follows:

  1. There are typically only one or two elections per year.  In the odd numbered years there is a City/School Election held in November.  The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  2. In the even number years, like this year, there is a Primary Election held in June and a General Election held in November. Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.  Precinct Election Workers work from 6:00 a.m. to approximately 10:00 p.m.  Since this is a long day we do offer split shifts that go from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to approximately 10:00 p.m.  However, we are required to have some workers who are at the polls for the entire day.
  3. Precinct Election Workers are paid by the hour.  The current rate of pay is $15.00 per hour for a precinct worker and $16.00 per hour for a precinct chair.
  4. Training is offered before the elections.  Additional training can be offered on request.
  5. We send out Worker Cards for each election and if you have a conflict with that particular election, you have the option to decline to work.  We will keep you on the list and continue to request you to work at other elections.

If you would be interested in working upcoming elections or if you have further questions, please contact our office at (641) 743-2546. We would love to add you to our master list and work with you. Being on the list doesn’t necessarily mean you will be contacted to work every election.
